How’s your 2022 going? Shot Show 2022 was a rousing success for us here at The Hunting Wire with several partnerships reaffirmed and a few new ones created. Right after coming back from Las Vegas, I was able to get into some local pheasants with my beloved French-built MAS 16-gauge shotgun at Shady Grove Shooting Preserve. It was the gun’s first hunt with me, and my first hunt of 2022.

My fiancée, Wendy, and I enjoyed a crisp January hunt in sub-freezing weather with upland guide and all-around superb gentleman Aaron Grimsley. Wendy, a western Kansas native, stayed toasty in her women-designed and women-specific Badlands attire while Aaron’s dogs and some potent Boss Shotshell #5’s did the real work. Let me tell you, it’s a lot easier to introduce a woman to hunting when she knows a company – and an industry - thinks about her differences from a man when developing their products, and Badlands is one of those. It’s more than having clothes that fit, it’s also about being inclusive, which is a popular word these days that means the difference between feeling like part of our hunting community instead of simply being its guest. Expect to hear more about Wendy ‘s experiences as a new hunter in our adventures throughout the year.

Roosters aside, there’s plenty of new and exciting things happening here at The Hunting Wire! We are proud to add the wise words of Bret Collier, Associate Professor, Louisiana State University - School of Renewable Natural Resources in a new column called Collier’s Corner. We also have our ongoing Voice of Leadership Panel, our third installment of our Mossberg/GPO All-Rookie Series, Kenny Corder’s American Series Podcast, and a whole lot more. Our industry is full of amazing people, and we are proud to keep the hunting and shooting industry informed about the companies and people who help make it one of the finest and most influential communities in the world.
